A typical power leveling guide gives information for a typical play through, and is generally based on the game as it is. This is fine for most. After all, powering through the game is meant to take as little time as possible. However, this is where most power leveling guides fail.
A power leveling guide that only tells you about the current game becomes worthless when the quests are changed, classes are balanced, and more areas are added. No matter when you read this, a new expansion will only be a year or two away at the very most. With that in mind, this article intends to be a more generalized guide for players who wish to get their characters to the top of the level grind in a short amount of time.
If a player is new, there is a tendency to feel lost in the World of Warcraft. Between quests, instances, raids, and simple grinding, one can feel overwhelmed. For those that have played more than one character, at least the last two options can be discounted as a manner of quickly ascending up to the end game. Grinding mobs (the act of repeatedly killing creatures) is perhaps the slowest way to level in the game.
Even with rest experience, one can only gain XP for killing each creature. Doing so may be more efficient in the short run (especially for the first two or three levels), but is useless in the end. Raiding is out of the reach of anyone grinding. The point of the grind is generally to get to the point of raiding, and the activity itself is more rewarding in terms of gear than actual experience levels. Leave raiding until the characters hit the level cap – it is more rewarding and more useful at that point.
While instances are a great way to gain XP, questing is absolutely the quickest way to level up. Most quests require killing various mobs (granting you the same kind of XP grinding would pay out) as well as extra experience for completing a quest. By keeping a constantly full quest log in a given zone, there should be constant, useful ways to gain experience.
Almost every mob in a zone is related to some kind of question – find out what the quests are before you start killing them! Instances will likewise come with quests – always be sure to grab them before starting. There are even a number of daily and repeatable quests that come with a decent amount of XP attached, so adding these to the daily plan makes for even faster leveling.
Quest as much as possible and the levels will fly by in World of Warcraft. Depending on the class, the vast majority of quests are capable of being done alone. With a little bit of forethought and planning, leveling up can be a breeze.
